The song was written by Kendrick who was convinced that he had finally found a potential vocalist in Khalil with the voice and style needed to sings the songs hook. Khalil agreed and upon producing a rough draft they were urged by family members and friends to consider moving forward as a team. The duo initially chose individual names for each other “Royalty” and “Angel” but wanted to also have a unified group name so after careful consideration they decided on the name that best described and summarized their undying passion for Christ and the Kingdom, staying true to their creed, C.R.E.A.M. was born, an acronym which means Christ Rules Everything Around Me inspired by a verse from one of their favorite rap troops, an American Gospel rap group named Cross Movement.
